Melissa enjoys the practice of law because she is a “people person” who loves having the opportunity to help families who are fighting the stressful hurdles in life. Melissa explains that the best thing about her job is hearing a client say that they were finally able to get a good nights sleep after meeting with her for a free consultation.

Melissa was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before she learned to walk, Melissa learned to ice skate. Melissa competed in figure skating competitions across the country. Melissa eventually became involved in cheerleading, and after cheerleading in middle and high school, was a four year varsity co-ed cheerleader during her undergraduate career at Elon University. And, to answer the number one question Melissa gets asked: Damon Duncan and Melissa met at the age of 16 in their high school English class. So yes, they were high school sweethearts!

While at Elon, Melissa studied Psychology and was involved in independent research regarding children and literacy. After marrying Damon during the summer between college and law school, Melissa went on to attend Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, NC.

While at Elon’s Law School, Melissa created the annual “Elon Law Reaches Out” service day for first year students. That program performs community service for non-profits around the Triad. Melissa also assisted with fundraising for the class gift and now serves as the Elon Law Alumni Association President. Melissa still spends time on the ice by coaching group classes at the Greensboro Ice House. When not in the office or on the ice, Melissa is a self-proclaimed football fan, who also enjoys reading, crocheting, waterskiing, and acoustic music.
