Even though John gets the money in November, his father died on May 15. That date falls inside the 180-day window. So the inheritance is part of John's bankruptcy estate.<\/p>\n

Now flip it. If John's father had passed away on, say, October 10, that would be more than 180 days after John filed. In that case, the inheritance would not be part of John's bankruptcy case at all. He could keep it without bankruptcy questions.<\/p>\n

What You Must Do If You Get an Inheritance<\/h2>\n
